The upcoming release of the first smartphone with a hidden camera under the screen? July 15, 2020 – Posted in: Smartphone news

Since smartphone manufacturers opted for borderless screens, they had to creatively find a place for the front camera, which is usually placed at the top of the smartphone. Many borderless smartphones have a notch or hole in the screen in which the front cameras are located. Some models have sliding devices or popup cameras like the OnePlus 7 Pro.

However, many brands are currently also investigating a new idea: to hide the camera behind the screen for selfies. This idea is to place the front camera under a part of the screen that can become transparent if you want to use the sensor. At least two manufacturers, Oppo and Xiaomi, have already officially announced that they will be researching this new technology.

However, no model with this new design type is currently available. The good news, however, is that the first model could be released very soon. At least this is suggested by a recent tweet from the Ice Universe account, a fairly reliable source of “leaks” that is regularly shared by the media.

That’s it ?

According to the release of Ice Universe, the Chinese screen manufacturer Visionix has just announced for the first time the mass production of a solution with which a front camera can be hidden under the screen. “The first smartphone with a camera under the screen will come out,” the report writes.

The Android Authority website adds that in addition to this special screen, Visionix would also work with smartphone manufacturers on an algorithm that minimizes screen interference with the photos taken by the sensor.

However, we currently do not know which manufacturers will be the first to launch a model with this new technology. As mentioned above, Xiaomi and Oppo have already announced that they will be researching this technology. And rumors suggest that Samsung and Huawei are also interested in it. Even Apple could turn to this technology to say goodbye to the 2021 notch.

Otherwise, we will also find that Oppo already showed a prototype of a smartphone (but not a marketed model) with a camera hidden under the screen a year ago.
