Oppo presents a smartphone with a photo sensor under the screen July 15, 2020 – Posted in: Smartphone news
After the (unsightly) notch, the retractable mechanisms and the punched screen, the next evolution to integrate the front photo sensor will undoubtedly be to position it under the slab. Several manufacturers are studying this possibility, including the Chinese Oppo.
An already convincing prototype?
At the Reno 3 and Reno 3 Pro conference, a working prototype was presented to the press. The model in question will not be marketed, but this gives an indication of the progress of this technology. The result is quite convincing, we just notice a little difference where the sensor is located. Current smartphones already have fingerprint readers under the screen, so this new solution seems possible in the short term. It remains to know the quality of the photo part … The challenge is to guarantee enough brightness for the sensor to function properly and in this area significant progress would still be possible.
Last October, TheElec site indicated that Samsung had also managed to produce an OLED panel which allows to integrate a photo sensor. However, this technology should not be found on the Galaxy S11. The Korean manufacturer would wait until 2021 to deploy this technology.
